This Tuesday we will be having a scavenger hunt to find a pesky chicken that is hiding somewhere in Stanwood. Get there right at 6:30 because we will be leaving the church. If you will be coming late let me know.

On Sunday it will be Easter and we will be having an all ages Easter Egg Hunt at the church after both services.

This week we will be having youth group on Tuesday at 6:30pm to 8:30 pm. We will be focusing on different ways to worship. There will be dinner and music so come for a good time!

There will also be Sunday School at 9:30 am on Sunday.

It is great to be back after a wonderful District Retreat in Bellingham. The youth had a great time playing broomball and ice skating.

This Tuesday night youth group will be a little different because I won't be there. I will be at a K-2 program for my student teaching. However, Kristen and Jerimiah Johnson will be leading youth group and it is sure to be a great time!

There will be Sunday School at 9:30 on the 14th.

Friday March 5th is the Broomball District Retreat in Bellingham. We will be meeting at the church at 5:30 and will return on Saturday the 6th at 8pm. The cost is $25 and you will need overnight gear as well as a broom.

Monday the 18th we will be having Worship Team from 7-8pm.

Tuesday we will have Youth Group from 6:30-8:30 and it will be game night. We will also be talking about how our group can help out in the Haiti relief effort.

The Jr. High Retreat will be on February 6-7 and we will meet at the church at 9:30 am to leave.

Also I will be making mission trip commitment sign ups soon so be on the look out for those!

Tuesday the 12th we will be having youth group at 6:30pm. We will be looking at a new unit on World Religions with Tuesday's focus on Hinduism. We will look into the religion and how it relates to Christianity as well as eat traditional food.

Sunday will be the first meeting for Middle School Madness. We will be meeting at the church at 11:45am to go Ice Skating in Everett. We will return by 2:30 pm.

Also mission trips for the youth have been decided. We will be going through Youth Works which is a company that provides mission trip support for Church youth groups.
The middle school youth will be traveling to Yakima, WA for their mission trip on July 4-9
The high school youth will be traveling to Vancouver, B.C for their mission trip on July 18-23

Here is the December update!

Tomorrow night Friday December 12th at 5pm we will be having a lights of Christmas lock in with the youth. We will meet at the church at 5pm to go to the church wide Christmas party. We will then head out to the lights of Christmas. We will return to the church around 10 for games and movies before heading to bed. It will end at 10am Saturday morning.
The cost is 15 dollars ( I have a few free tickets for those who need it)
Bring a sleeping bag and pillow and a signed note from your parents saying you can stay the night.
Also bring warm clothes as we will be walking around outside

Saturday afternoon December 12th at 3:00pm we will be having the first meeting of the youth leadership team. We will be meeting at the church in the Youth room.

Sunday December 13th will be the first week of middle/high school sunday school.

Monday there will be no worship team but I encourage you to head over to the high school and support the members of our youth group that are in the choir for their winter concert.

Tuesday December 15th will be the Youth group Christmas party! Due to Christmas and Winter Camp this will be our last meeting before the New Year! Come for food games and FUN! Bring a white elephant gift (generally something used or under $5) Sure to be a fun event!

This week we have quite a bit going on!

If you are a member of the worship team show up tonight at 7:00 for a two hour meeting. We will be going over all the music we will need to know for Sunday as well as decorate T-Shirts to represent our group!

Tuesday night we will be having Youth Group from 6:30-8:30. Dinner will be provided. In this meeting we will be introducing a study that we will be doing once a month in January on world religions and how they interact with Christianity. We will also use the rest of our time to talk about the new year and play games!

Sunday Dec. 6th the youth worship team will be leading music for the 8:30 church service. You won't want to miss it!

Worship team will be happening tomorrow Monday the 26th at the church from 7-8 pm.

The youth group will be getting ready for Halloween by celebrating with a Halloween party this Tuesday at 6:30 pm. We will be having a costume contest so costumes are encouraged! Bring a friend for this sure to be a fun night!

You know i have some wonderful videos of each act done at the talent show. What an amazing Body of Christ. When someone with diabetes gets sick from doing too much, and asks for help, watch the Methodist Church Pull together, knit a community of Love and grace toward one another in love! Amazing.

Sara and Annalisa, yours is the one i wanted to put up, but it is 158mb and the program only allows 100. I am going to burn all of the acts on to one cd. I will get it to Carol. (in office) and she can get you each a copy.

I was graced to work with each youth this past 6 months. You are a delight, a child of God and loved by me and by the congregation. I know that they will keep the Tuesday, Friday and Sunday Highschool Going, they will not let you down. See how they rallied and put on a wonderful Talent show for you. That is your nest egg for a mission trip for YOU. Dont forget it, they did that for you. It was how excited the Church body is to have you with them.

Fun night!
Amanda came to be extra chaperone. Thank you Amanda. Matthew was more entertaining for all the youth! He needs to grow up fast (10 more years) and join the next generation of SUMY group.

My daughter Jessie came down with baby Saige and we all took turns holding her. Babys are sweet with they sleep.

I treatened music. Actually i did not think it was a threat, tried to find our camp song books, but they enjoy more just visiting, eating hotdogs and s'mores. So all that research for words and sounds for "the boa constrictor song" wasted. And I still cant remember the hand motions to "Little Bunny Foo Foo". Well I guess they are happy I have forgotten them! haha. Well, here is some pictures for you who missed it.

Me again,

We have a couple of high School youth who want their own study group. So, May 17 at 6:00 pm we will meet. I am trying to get from the Pacific NW Conference Resource Catalog Marcus Borg's dvd series Experiencing the Bible again for the first time. If you want to listen to Marcus borg to get an idea of his theology check interfaith voices , and after marcus borgs blup is an interview with Janell Miller a senior at Winnooski High school in Vermont. " High school senior Janell Miller ponders parents, the afterlife and a secret wish to sing in church. This commentary was originally created for her world history class where she was asked to answer, "What is God?" Would love to know what you ALL think of it. Which is why you middle schoolers are getting this also. Click on the link and listen a bit, and tell me what you think! I would really like to know.

Tonight we did some rating 1-5 (five a favorite and one least interesting), our programing. And we starting to pray about calling those from the congregation to be volunteers, or come and talk to us about their gifts, and experiences. We contiue to pray as we process those names before God.

here is a game we played called YURT CIRCLE; We joined hands and expaned the ciricl until everyone felt some pull on their arms from those on each side. We counted off by 2's and the ones leaned forward and twos backwards. I found this a good game to learn coopoerating with one another as each person exert quit a strong pull on each other. It wont work if we did not work as one body.

Good Morning all, This week of April 19-25th we have two forsure activities and one..a hopefull possiblity.

Tuesday is SUMY night. 6:30-8:30 If the sun and warm hold maybe we should be outside again!
Friday is the Bon Fire at my place. I will pick you up at 6:00pm at the church and return you non the worse for wear at 9:00pm. Hotdogs, s'mores, sing-around-the camp fire, and general pretending to be camping type night.
Saturday---just maybe-- CWU (Central Washington University) in Ellenburg is having their CWU Rodeo Club is having the Todd Andersen Memorial Rodeo this Saturday, April 25-26. Slack is in the morning and then at 6pm the big event starts. I am trying to find an extra Chaperone. If i can find one, We will leave at noon Saturday and be back shortly after midnight. This is very tenatative. Waiting to hear feed back from you and from some volunteers. I prefer someone else drive van so I can interact with the youth.

It was a good night. We sang "They will know we are Christians by our Love" and we started a tradition. We have a code word John 13:35-36 so just John 13. This means give a compliment to someone. So...others can see SUMY and know we are Christians by our Love for one another.

We talked about up coming Lock-in. And we watched some of Rich Mullin's concert youtube clips.

Mostly we talked. Then we did the football huddle prayer in sanctuary.

"Mark 16:8 leaves us with a somewhat astonishing finish — "and they said nothing to anyone for they were afraid." I typically think of the Lenten season as a journey to the cross, but perhaps it would be just as appropriately identified as a journey to resurrection. In some ways, it is easier to face the cross than the resurrection. We see evidence of the realities of the cross throughout our world. It is harder sometimes to see evidence of the resurrection. And when we do see the evidence, the empty tombs and life restored, it might require something of us for which we are unprepared.

Last month, Goshen College had the pleasure of hosting Shane Claiborne and Chris Lahr from the Simple Way Community in Philadelphia. Shane spoke one evening on 'resurrecting church' and challenged us to live into the Kingdom of God; to be the church we long for. Perhaps God's invitation to us this Easter is not just to believe in the resurrection, but to live into new life. What might it mean to live into a world where death no longer reigns? May God grant us eyes to see grace, hope and love at work in our world, and the courage, creativity and strength to respond in kind."

detour...wrong turn trail kept getting harder and harder to find. Finally we came back to the "real" trail

We had a great time today. Arrived at North beach about 11:30 walked on beach, rock climbed, eat chicken and potato salad. Went to trail head and hiked out to Cornet Bay. Got a little lost, but found some beautiful flowers. Great day! Bon Fire tomorrow night, Friday already, spring break almost over.

Hey ya'all. We had a smaller crowd, but fun just the same. Prayer flages are painted and drying. I will get them washed and hung in Westley hall I hope for Palm Sunday. Maybe we can all be at the 8:30 Service. Breakfast is part of worship. We could sit all at one table!

Plan for this Friday is Bon Fire and Donna's maybe we can get Ed to come and play guitar and sing around the campfire. Who knows "walking and leaping and Praising God?".

I read some from Marcus Borg's Book THE LAST WEEK:

"Two processions entered Jerusalem on a spring day in the year 30. It was beginning of the week of Passover, the most sacred week of the Jewish year. In the centuries since, Christians have celebrated this day as Palm Sunday, the first day of Holy Week. With its Climax of Good Friday and Easter, it is the most sacred week of the Christian year.

One was a peasant procession, the other an imperical procession. From the east, Jesus rode a donkey down the Mount of Olives, cheered by his followers. Jesus was from the peasant Village of Nazareth, his message was about the Kingdom of God, and his followers, come from the peasant class....

On the opposite side of the city, from the west, Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor of Idumea, Judea and Sameria, entered Jeruslem at the end of a column of imperial cavarey and soldiers. Jesus's procession proclaimed the Kingdom of God; Pilate's proclaimed teh power of empire. The two processions embody the central conflict of the week that led to Jesus's crucifiction.

Imagine the imperial procession's arrival in the city. A visual panoply of imperial power: Cavalry of horses, foot soldiers, leather armor, helmets, weapons, banners, golden eagles mounted on poles, sun glinting on metal and gold. Sounds: the marching of feet, the creaking of leather, the clincking of bridles, the beating of drums. The swirling of dust. The eyes of the sielnt onlookers, some curious, some awed, some resentful......

We return to the story of jesus entering Jerusalem. Althoug its is familiar, is has surprises. As Mark tells the story in 11:1-11, it is a prearranged "Counterprocession". Jesus planned it in advance.....

Jesus' procession deliberately counted what was happening on the other side of the city. Pilates procession embodies the power, glory and violence of the empire that ruled the world. Jesus's procession embodied an alternative vision, the kingdom of God. The contrast--between the kingdom of God and the kingdom of Caesar--is central not only in the gosplel of Mark, but to the story of Jesus and early christianity.

The controntation beween these two kingdoms cointues thorugh the last week of Jesus's life. As we all know, the week ends with Jesus's execution by the powers who ruled his world. Holy Week is the story of this confrontation."

Then we talked about Munday Thursday, the last supper. THe plan is to go to DECEPTION PASS that day, and be back in time to attend services. We though, broke bread, then tried to put peices back together, to make the point, that all though we have different gifts and are many, we are also one body, in Christ.

Older youth want a more serious discussion group. Small, more study, action, praxis. Kelesa mother mentioned she might like to facilate the group, and I will support you all in any way i can. COuld be Senior High and Middle school group names, or just one group that plays games, sings, and studies. and aother that is only study, and talk about how we can put the topic to action in our own communities, of family, school and town. Talk to Kelsea at School and come up with time. We can use my office or we can use the Station in town. I will support you in any way you wish.

Amazing Bible Race Kick off party was unbeleivable. I mean what fun.

We have made a big commitment and signed a contract committing to do the best we can in reading and answering our questions as we journey through the bible.

This weeks readings are: For leg one Genesis- Deuteronomy (the books of the law, the pentateuch.

Ed Johnson was our driver and navigator, what a blessing he is: "thank you Ed."

Those who went where Charles Southward, Abbie Buchanan, Sara Southward, Micie(sp), Amanda Johnson, Ed Johnson and Kyle Cairus and photographer...Donna.

We had a wonderful time. We were early enough for pizza, salads, and lots of junk food in general!
Seats were good, music...I am not sure, my ears still ring, 12 hours later.

Who are the SUMY Kids?

When I was hired as the youth director only about 6 weeks ago, I was told by some we had no youth. We are few, but we are many. I know we have at least five seniors, who are so busy I am amazed how they do it all. I have been able to chat and even debate with a few on facebook time. They are few, but they are many.

I had two, but then I had four. I had four, but now we are eight, although one is in school now in Mexico…if your reading this Scott…you are missed.

Charles is our brain. He knows more about computers then I ever will be able to. He can set me up in record time, he has put up the wii in projection and we all can play. He projects movies and we have stepped into a theatre.

Sara is our heart. She keeps bringing in new friends, and some keep coming back. She is the pulse, the beating warmth that radiates from her own soul. She pumps new blood into our heart.

Eric said one week lets rap next week, lets jam. And birthed was a singing group for the week. What fun we had, as we jammed with guitar, flute, keyboard, and tambourine.

His brother Kyle learned from Ed “Jed” Johnson how to play base guitar and I think a new career has been born.

This is our core group. They are my constant companions. But they bring with them Adam, Natalie, and Abbie.

But I am not done yet, who do we have on facebook? Our seniors Jared, Nathan, Lynette, DA (Donald) and since these are seniors I must name Quieter Kylie…I hope to meet more often…but understand..if not. There is Madison who wants to come, but drivers ed conflicts for now. But we are more than two gathered in Christs name. Church can be face book!

I have not yet begun for those who think we have none. I can count about 25 youth who are affiliated with Stanwood, and we are growing yes we are!

I do get amazed, seems every week, we grow, sometimes by one, or two, sometimes we double! God is at work. It’s not channeled through me, no it’s though them. They are God’s gift to me and to our church. I have been the one blessed.

Tomorrow we are going to start to learn about prayer, listening to the quiet voice of God. And we will learn that believe it or not…in a skate board relay race! I hope to see more of you there to see how skate boarding relates to Prayer!

Broomball, Huh?!?

It’s a sport. And it’s played in an ice rink, if
you’re fancy. Real down‐home broomball is
like a ‘poor‐mans’ version of ice hockey.
This event is also an overnighter with food,
games, friends, and worship with music led by
the college group at Garden Street UMC.

Who Is It For?

All Jr.High, Middle School and Sr. High youth (6‐
12th grades) are encouraged to attend.
Friends are welcome always, regardless of their
faith tradition.

We believe in safe camps and retreats!

Eat dinner before you arrive. We’ll have pizza,
snacks, and a pancake breakfast.

Registration
Cost is $20 which includes food and cost of the
ice rink. Bring your signed registration form,
completed the night of the event.
No Form, No Play.

Write checks to Puget Sound District UMC.
Registration is from 7:00‐8:00 PM.

What to Bring

Broom & Duct Tape!
Sleeping bag, pillow, toiletries, and change of
warm clothes (Broomball is cold and wet),
jammies, and a great attitude.
